Hunt 1 April 6 - 9
Cooper Callaway and Blake Balzli, two dentists from Starkville, MS hunted the McManus Camp for spring turkey. Since their hunt perfectly overlapped the Home Camp hunt on the same dates, both hunters experienced the same wild weather. Saturday was brutally cold; Sunday was borderline hot.
But Cooper and Blake collected impressive, mountable gobblers. Blake's two were called-up, and the larger of the two weighed 22 lbs and sported a 9 3/8 inch beard. But get this: he had a pair of spurs that each taped 1 5/16". He was taken with a 50 yard shot, too.
Cooper's tom had 1 1/16" spurs with a 9 inch beard. But Cooper had to perform a "Ninja Creep and Crawl" to collect the trophy. Hey - sometimes, you gotta do what you gotta do.
